Why are so many people so concerned with witchcraft, even today in the 21st century? I thought we all agreed that magic isn't real a long time ago. So WHY is it still an issue?

You don't know a lot about religions, do you? There are many, many religions today that still practice some form of witchcraft or magic.
The spells in the movies are ever so slight variations on real spells
Real spells? Hahahahah...they're just modifications to latin phrases with similar root meanings. No one has proven that they are 'real' spells.
Generally speaking, it's because the word "witch" is a negative buzzword for Christians...causes them to think of someone conjuring up the devil or something stupid like that. Most boycotts or bans of Harry Potter just stem from some form of ignorance, pure and simple.
Best answer every. Thank you very much for that. I agree it's complete ignorance, because if the parents would just do some research or read the book themselves, the would realize that there is a whole underlying story that has nothing at all to do with witchcraft.

If anything needs addressed I think it would be her unusual use of parental and family death, not the magic. I mean even alot of nursery rhymes and bedtime stories use magic. Why not attack J.R.Tolkien while we're at it for the Lord of the Rings... Nah that wouldn't be fair he was too good a friend to C.S. Lewis, who suprisingly enough has never been attacked for his Chronicles of Narnia series with blatent uses of magic and witchcraft. Sure you could say Azland is Jesus in some strange metaphorical manner but then again wasn't Harry Potter kind of the "savior" of his nation? Just something to think about. She had trouble with her father as a kid and thats why harry has so many adoptive father figures in his life: Hagrid, Mr weasley, Dumbledore. ect.

ARGH! That's how my niece's dad is as well! I hate the fact that they can't wear costumes! And it didn't help that this year his brother's birthday just so happened to be the day after Halloween and that it just so happens to be a "costume party", NOT a Halloween party... talk about double standards. *eyes roll* But he let them dress up as long as they're not trick-or-treating this year, which works with my sis and me... We don't trust anyone that lives around us enough to do that anyway.
i never knew Christians are forbidden from watching or reading it :S
Yeah, a lot of Christians either aren't allowed to by their parents, or they forbid to because of whatever.
