I always believed in God, i guess because i never had another choice.  I'm sixteen now, and ever since i was fourteen, i havent believed in God. My family doesn't know. but idc. Reasons i don't believe : Look around you. You see hate, death, suffering, poverty, hunger. Wheres this "GOD" at making all this go away? When i was fourteen my dd was brutally killed in a car accident.  I log truck was on the wrong side of the road, in a no passing zone, on a curve, my dad saw him and swerved into a ditch, the log truck went the same way my dad did, and hit him in the drivers side.  The log driver got out and sat in the ditch, and watched as my dad's van exploded, and he burned to death.  Witnesses saw this.  A few months ago my family took this bastard to court, and he admitted to being on the side of the road. We had 4 witnesses there, and they said he was in the wrong doing. The jury heard all of this, and even saw pictures, and they ruled him NOT GUILTY.  Where was God to give my family peace of mind and justice? Exactly, he wasn't there because he doesn't exist. Yesterday two christian people died down the road from me. They were 70yrs old. If God was real, or atleast nice,  he would have let these good people go peacefully. But no, their house caught on fire, and they burnt to death.  SUFFERED. These people went to churcj, thanked God, and all that candy. But where was God when these people needed them? Where was he when my dad needed him? Where was he? NOWHERE. cause he doesn't exist. Do you believe in superheroes? i did when i was a kid. People could throw fire, move things with their mind, and fly. They have super powers, just like this God. So we believe in him, but not superman? stupid if you ask me.

Classic -- or not. Let me ask you this: have you ever heard of the Holocaust? During the Holocaust, millions of Jews (and Christians and homosexuals and Polish folks and gypsies, etc. etc. ad nauseum) saw their fathers die at the hands of Nazis who were never punished for their crimes during these people's lifetimes. Not only that, these intentional murderers were allowed to gloat over these people and continue to abuse them for no reason other than their heritage. And many of those millions continued to believe in God despite this. The existence of God is not dependent on your idea of justice being met. You're angry and hurting, and that's understandable, but this is a piss-poor excuse to be an atheist. It's kind of like the two-year-old saying to their mother "I HATE YOU" because the mother wasn't magically there to keep them from scraping their knee. God isn't a genie existing only to make sure that you never experience pain or suffering. I will not argue theology with you but I'll just point out that your view of God as Superman is a common one. it's an easy concept for children especially to grasp and I personally think we do a disservice by teaching that concept. I'd like to recommend a book by a Rabbi Kushner, called Why Bad Things Happen to Good People".  It probably won't change your mind and I'm not trying to, just give you perspective. I remember this argument from the BF of a friend of mine. His Dad died after the crane he was operating fell over. In the BF's mind, his Dad died because there is no God. He died, of course, because the crane collapsed and his body could not withstand that trauma. Of course it would be nice to have Superman-God swoop out of the sky to catch him, or to save your Dad. it would be nice if God did a magic wand trick above my own Dad's cancer. But God as magician, Superman, or  puppeteer does not exist, obviously. "hate, death, suffering, poverty, hunger" are all under the control of mankind and I'd hate to have a god who pulled strings like a puppeteer and marched people into war, into suffering etc...."OK, now who-o-o am I going to smite today?!" To return to Rabbi Kushner, he points out that IF God exists, we apparently have a distorted, wishful thinking concept of him. In the old testament for instance, he's often a vengeful, nasty brute, but by the new testament, he's changed. Did god grow with people or was it simply the concept of God that has changed? A close friend of mine who has two daughters with a rare and eventually fatal disease sees the good side of our concepts of God and it helps her deal with the tragedy that will play out one day for both her daughters, and which she is reminded of each day of life. As I said, I won't argue with you- you may well be right. But I'll ask you to consider that if you were looking for Superman maybe you were looking for the wrong thing. And you may find comfort in a different concept. Wherever you find it, in a spiritual connection, or somewhere else, I hope you find it.
