Have to be such assholes? I am an atheist, I don't believe in god, and that's that. However, just because some one doesn't believe in god doesn't mean that person has to force their opinion on believers.

Really atheists have a bad rep because of the assholish ones that go around telling believers that they are wrong and/or stupid.

I am just sick of it. People in general need to learn that a person is free to believe in what they feel is right and no one should put that person down for it.

I'm not like that. And it isn't only Atheists who do that. Plenty of Christians and other religions do the same thing, telling people that they are wrong and shoving their beliefs down people's throats. Anyway, don't just put the blame on Atheists, because everyone else does it too. Some do it without even realizing it.

I'm not saying that atheists are the only ones who do it; what I am saying is that, as with other religions, the vast majority of teenage atheists are as much just to be "cool." They have the added bonus of also being omgrebellious too.

being an atheist seems to be a fad nowadays.

Saying something is a fad is becoming a fad. Just because more than one person has the same thoughts and interests it becomes a fad?

No; however, it is becoming fairly trendy for those free-thinking teenagers to declare that they no longer believe in God for any variety of stupid reasons. Listening to and reading their reasons, it often becomes apparent that most haven't thought this decision through logically, so the conclusion that can generally be reached is that it's a rebellious fad for most (note: "for most"--I'm sure that there are teenagers out there who have given genuine thought to the situation and do have decent reasons for their atheism; most of those, unfortunately, do not frequent the internet), much like Wicca.

For most of them, they entirely oblivious to what they really feel, because its not really that importantto them or more specifically something they think about. Most teenagers dont believe (here in UK anyway), but at the same time dont know what atheism really is, they are more likely agnostic. They dont even actually have any reason to believe or not believe, they dont have arguments for or against. Its more of a casual opinion than an active belief. But dont get me wrong its totally logical, and probably that some are atheists simply to be adding to their image of 'rebellion', i know too many

hehe, I know the feeling (sort of >_>...been a while since I've had an end of semester paper).

Ohhh, lucky. I am quite literally going insane. I think I need a semester off. :/

I'm not saying all people are like that. Just all those I've encountered(personally), and those I've seen in power.

You, um, did say all.

Eh, I meant all that I've encountered, I think I left that part out. It's been a hard week, I've been having brain farts all over the place. Hooray for end-of-semester papers, bah.

Oh I bet. Because even though you aren't of the uncompassionate, power-hungry kind, unfortunately you still have to deal with that stigma.

That's the thing that sucks the most about it...when you honestly just want to love people, and they basically throw it back in your face and tell you that no, you don't actually love them, you're just power-hungry.

Kinda sucks.

That's a bullshit excuse. No stranger gives a fuck about my sould, as they shouldn't. And no brainwashed sheep are my friends.

It's about power. Control. Plain and simple. People crave power.

You know, it's pretty clear that you're angry at a few people in the church who were twats to you. Don't let that anger take over your perception of people who genuinely do care about your soul, even if they don't know you. Judging them and saying that they want power over you is just as bad as them saying that you're going to hell for your sexual preferences--it's a horrible thing to do, either way.

I know it's clear, I'm not denying it, heh. I'm just tired of all the shit that people put each other through, hiding behind a facade of righteousness. I know, not all Christians are like that. But the ones that are are the ones in power. They are the ones in control. Who wouldn't be pissed about that?

It is frustrating, I agree. And it's not even all of the ones in control, either, just the loudest ones. As frustrating as it is for you, it's doubly frustrating for me, as these people are the public face of a faith I hold very dear to my heart, and I hate seeing it so mistreated.

Funny. Thats the same with religious people

surely religious people are saving your soul. what's the gain in converting someone in to an atheists.

Don't say he will be smarter, as everyone knows that's not true

You can't prove that, so it's pointless to try and force it on someone.

but, when you think about it, they are trying to help you. that what i was going for. i'm not defending forcing religion on people, just giving the reason theist do it

Do you really believe that? That no one who genuinely thinks that you are doomed to an eternity of suffering wishes that they could help you?

I have never encountered compassion from people like that.

If such a faith has bred such a people, it says very little about said faith.
