first of all let me say i am not religion bashing at all

i read ( at least i learned in history class ) that this religion was created by a guy names Joseph Smith who is basically a con man and looked for a way to make money, so he said he spoke to angels and got people to believe him, and now all these gullible people created churches after him and even mormon colleges

there is this girl i work with who is mormon and for some reason i feel bad that she was brain-washed

Is she a religiously conservative or the fake liberal city slicker Mormon?  Which one is she?

And why do you think she is "brain-washed?"

During my soul searching and the times where I was trying to find God again, I became a Mormon. They are good people, some of the nicest you will ever meet. They are very strong in their faith and many of them are better than Christians. The missionaries are taught how to convert people, they are given a lot of material and coached in what to say, how to say it and when to say it. Even after one becomes a Mormon, it is quite a while before they actually learn some of the more "different" teachings of the church. Initially, everything is presented in a way that it seems like mainstream Christianity.

Another reason that it is such a big religion is that more people are falling away. More people are questioning their faith. More people want something different.

Since then, I'm proud to say that I've become a faithful Roman Catholic. But, I too had "fallen onto the boat" and joined the Mormon faith.

And the services are three hours long too

anyway, I find the people at the church to be nice human beings. I mean there are a lot of flaws in Mormonism, but that's the case with almost every belief system, or lack of belief. Mormons also preach a lot and that really helps. Members of the church (specially men) are supposed to preach anywhere around the world for two years, before going to college. It's usually a bad thing if one of them chooses not to become a missionary. The family thing is also an important factor. They're very organized about it. They have separate classes for teens, children, adults (men and women separate for a certain period of time).

anyway, they believe the fact that the religion grows quickly means it's true. It's very a amusing and entertaining. I like the churches too. They're really elegant and peaceful, and the temples are amazing too. Hopefully I'll visit the one in Salt Lake City at some point. :D

i was a mormon for a year. (family choice without my knowledge).

first, unlike other Christian religions, no alcohol. ever. at the service, you get water. (one of the reasons my dad quit. he has a beer after work every Saturday). also, you are allowed to have more than one female spouse. women can't have more than one husband, but men can have more than one wife. also, ABSOLUTELY NO HOMOSEXUALS. once during a service, a prayer was offered for the ex-organ player. he was exiled from the church for being a homo. Also, the church takes the bible VERY LITERALLY! So, if my input helps, your welcome. If not, oh fricken well. I'm glad I quit, personally.

Mormon culture is very family oriented (meaning that the religion is more likely to be passed down successfully), and Mormons tend to have a lot of kids. After the Mormons were driven out of town and headed out West to practice their religion in peace they had a long time to establish strongly Mormon communities (like the state of Utah...) that also help to ensure that people accept Mormonism. Add the heavily evangelical nature of Mormons and the money that the Church of Latter Day Saints pulls in to this and you get a pretty steady population growth.

My friend had mormon missionaries come to her home, they made us watch a whole video on that Smith Person.

It's just a religious cult.
