i was raised christian.
but now im questioning.
i dont know if there is a god.
but i absolutely hate religion.
it just separates people.
and who knows truly what religion is right?
whos going to hell, whos not.
and by the way gods described, hes a mean and selfish person.
who wants to worship that?
anyone want to have a discussion?

Religion is man's way of putting God in a box.
That's assuming that there is a God.

No, it's not God that's put in a box, it's the rituals and beliefs concerning God that are boxed up.

Some would argue that that is all that God is.

Some probably would... but who are those "some"? Most likely the one who claim He doesn't exist.

Yes, most likely. I have yet to fall on either side.

Okay I'm not denying that but what are they?

So we're just supposed to get away with anything without any consequences? Jesus also says that no matter what is written in the Bible HE makes the final judgement as to whether or not a person makes it into Heaven. It's not up to us to know or decide.

 pfft.
that kind of contradicts everything you just said. he could be a big asshole and you not even know it, assuming he's a judge.

Mkay then I ask you this... Assuming from the Christian stand point, that we're all God's children, why in the world would he WANT to send us to Hell. KNOWING, that he's a loving God, since it came from his mouth, and was put directly in the bible. Would a father on Earth want to decide which of his kids were going to be sent to Hell no matter what he did? No. It would rip him to shreds. Same thing with Jesus Christ. Again, we're assuming Christianity is true for argument's sake. So Jesus Christ died on the cross because he didn't WANT to choose which of his children would be sent to Hell. He gave them a CHOICE, because he's a loving God, not a controlling God. If he forced people on Earth to believe in him then that would be wrathful and selfish.

your last sentence is contradicting, he does force people to believe in him. not in so many words, but its either, believe in me or go to hell. what is your choice?

and then condemning them if they dont after barely any evidence isn't?

barely any evidence of what? No what I'm saying is that since we don't know how his final judgements work out, why would we assume that they would be wrathful and selfish after knowing all of that? If that's what you're referring to then I fail to see how that's barely any evidence.

Right, you pointed it out for his "benefit" in a demeaning way. That makes a lot of sense. Okay that's not merciful but how is it embedded in wrath? 1 John 4:8
Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. (NIV) *love*

Ephesians 4:32
Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you. *mercy*

and then he turns around and says that there are unforgiveable sins.

This is my opinion and I'm not making anyone believe.

I think religion is great. It shows the spiritual side of you and I love that. I don't think God is selfless and mean so to speak. Some people describe him as selfless but I really think God is merciful and loving. I know that sometimes believing in something not see able is hard but it's like wind for example you can't see it but you can feel it, but that's the way I feel about God. It gives me comfort to believe that there was something behind that universe instead of a "Big Bang" which actually don't make sense to me. I honestly think there is a God because I can actually feel his presence.

If it sounds like copypasta, looks like copypasta...

You're an idiot. I didn't copy and paste.

not the goddamn point. it's basically the same moot point any other believer would say: "You can feel the wind but you cant see it and thats how I feel about god", "A God would give me more comfort instead of a big bang which doesnt make sense to me"
It doesnt make sense to you because you dont really understand it. what else is new, I wonder...
btw, selfless is not the right word. its selfISH.

Well that's my opinion and if you were a mature individual you would respect that.

hmmm.
maturity still doesnt keep me from pointing out the fallacies in your exposition.

obviously you're so insecure with your OWN fallacies that you need to point out everyone else's. This topic wasn't created to point a poster's fallacies now was it? so GTFO. On a side note, if you were to actually sit down and read the bible you'd find that there's far more scripture about his love for the children of the world as opposed to his wrath.

please explain how I'm insecure with my "own fallacies". I'm simply pointing out that his exposition was due to a lack of understanding.
I've read the bible. jesus, why does everyone tell me that? those that criticize the bible have often read it.

It was completely unnecessary to point out his mistake when you clearly understood what he meant. Therefor, you're acting in a way in which people see you as an insecure individual who can't acknowledge their own problems. Hence they pick and prod at other people's expositions. Well if you've read the bible then you'd know that the Bible preaches more about God's love and mercy then his wrath. That's why I assumed you hadn't thoroughly read it.

what, about the "SelfISH not selfless" thing? what? I was simply pointing that out to him for his future benefit.
yeah, love and mercy. "I am the way, the truth and the light. Noone comes to the father but through me."
Thats merciful. heh.
