why does it seem that different religions argue amongst each other? if everyone believes in god then should it matter how different people of faith teach it? or is it the events that took place so long ago that are the cause for argument?

This is a great series of questions that need to be dissected.  First, why do ethical systems battle with one another?  Are their fundamental values so different?  No, each seeks control and not ecumenical detente.

It is not about God, religion is about forcing a person's concept of God on others (to save them in some exclusive formula).

Good question.  Do specifics about events really matter?  Religion is a business, not a history class.  Churches, Mosques, Synagogues and Temples want members and their money. The conflict is less about whose morals are best than a simple Walmart versus Target competition.

If God existed then this nonsense and violence would not.

Because a lot of religious make incompatible claims about reality?

religion is cause of all war

If only that was the case, 99% of the time wars are over one country wanting what another has or other political differences, even the crap with Osama Bin Laden isn't 100% religious in nature.

Wars are fought for resources and land...Religion is but the color of the opposing jerseys.

Contradictory theologies.

Funny that all the religions that fight have basically the same god. They dislike how we worship that God; and dislike the way the others tell the story about their god--poor imagery and all that.

A friend of mine was secretly dating a girl from a Muslim family for a while. It had to be secret because her family would flip p hard if they found out she was even socializing with guys. I tried to convince him that if he converted, he could marry her and up to three other women. He'd just have to accept some silly claims about the nature of the universe to get there.

It's always the imagery

Just different ways that people use to understand the same thing.

My honest opinion... many people become devoted to their religion because it is a way of masking their insecurities and uncertainty of self and the nature of life. Therefore, when something threatens their carefully built up reality (aka, someone with a differing opinion of the concept of god), more likely than not they will vehemently and potentially violently defend their own views. It's a defensive mechanism; protection against all those scary things they've managed to shut out via their religious beliefs.

I'm not saying everyone is like that; just some.

Everyone thinks that their religion is best. That's why I'm an atheist.
