Talk to him about it when he's feeling a little better. If he's depressed, people's sex drives can be reduced a lot. He might not be up to it at all. If he's having a good day or things start to look up, bring it up in a gentle way. Not like "I wanna have sex, do you?" way. Talk to him about it and see what he says, let him know you're fine with it if he doesn't want to, as well.

wait till he's sorted it out, read about chlamydia and all kinds of infections you can have from sex before you have sex, it'll really help prevent you from getting it. I wish I knew all the stuff before I had sex.

i like the idea of waiting till you're in a strong, long relationship and plan on spending the rest of your life with that person
Don't most teens always think they're at that point?
you have a point there |

In my opinion, sex will just complicate things at the moment. So I suggest you wait until everything's okay and he's feeling a lot happier, then talk it over and decide whether you two believe you're ready to do it.

Well with all the specifics you've provided, it's really easy for us to give you advice! Of course no matter how many details, the answer's the same. He's your boyfriend, it's your life, if you don't know where you stand with him, how are we, total strangers to the situation, supposed to live your life for you?

I think you should wait to have sex when you are both in a good place, especially in your relationship. Sex can change things and if things are already unstable I would suggest working it out first. Especially if it is your first time.

Aw it's no fun seducing a depressed guy. Give him some time to heal emotionally and then fuck his brains out.
