That's probably part of the reason that whatever source my textbook was using came to its conclusion--it's a lot more common for new smokers to smoke a lot of cigs every week than it is for someone to snort tons of coke every week. We use nicotine in a way that is more prone to addiction. The amount of cocaine that he did is fairly well-established and uncontested, and it's not enough for him to have been an addict. Cigarettes are nowhere near as addictive as cocaine. Cocaine addiction is pretty quick, cigarettes take years. Unfortunately I don't have my AP Psych book that I got the cigs fact from; you can check wikipedia under "cocaine addiction" to see how most take over a decade to develop, however.
