I smoke cigs and weed daily and havent got a sinus infection in almost a year, which i caught from my brother.   Now as to why it helps smelling I took a shit in my bathroom and closed the door. I watched 45 minutes of a tv show and went back into the bathroom to pack my bubbler. I then went outside and smoked a bowl, and came back into the bathroom to empty the bubbler. Right when i went it smelled like someone had taken a shit in there. I didn't notice anything before i smoked.
