i started drinking when i was 11...got really into the party scene my freshman year (i was 13...) and then came the guys...i went through the most basic forms of trying to avoid the problems and in the end, all it did was make me repress the real issues and when i got hit with reality...i lost most of my friends because of it, i closed myself off from my family, i became the slut in the group....no one was there to help me back up in school and in life basically...i got kicked when i was down by the people who partied with me, the people who i thought understood me better than i did....there's gonna come a point in your friend's life that he's gonna reach that breaking point and i just hope you're someone that'll help him back up on his feet...until then just steer him to understand the reality of the situation he's in....

tell him you have this new drink that will get him really wasted. Then give him bitters (it is a little bottle of spice for drinks), mint, rootbeer and if you have it a touch of peanut flour. Then tell him it has either PGA in it or burdon but that it tastes like a rootbeer float. He won't be able to taste the liqour, that is not really in there, and maybe after a while he will figure out he does not need it

Drinking is just a symptom of the emotional chaos at his home. Try and be emotionally supportive and go do something funner than drinking with him that is equally distractive if you wanna be a good friend.
