Facts on Drug Dosages, and Overdose

If you think that you or someone else has potentially overdosed or had a dangerous amount to drink it can be a terrifying situation, particularly for teenagers who are illegally using substances without their parent's knowledge and are afraid of getting caught. In these situations, the best solution by far is to contact poison control (or your country's equivalent). These services are all toll-free, confidential, and available 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. If someone around you may have had too much to drink (or too much of any other drug), professionals will walk you through immediate care, risk assessment, and advise you as to whether or not you should go to a hospital for immediate medical attention. I have poison control's number saved in my phone for situations like these, and strongly advise others to do the same.

Remember, a trained medical professional/ poison specialist is ALWAYS a better source of information than you, your friends, or whoever happens to be on LW at any given time. If you're unsure of what to do, you have nothing to lose by calling and asking.

This shows you what the recovery position looks like (if you call 911 they will probably explain it to you as well).

Whatever you do DO NOT leave someone who has passed out from alcohol or drugs lying on their back. If they start vomiting while on their back and only partially conscious they could choke to death.

I feel the need to add, should you suspect someone has alcohol poisoning and is unconscious, place them in the recovery position and keep constant obsvervations on their breathing until paramedics arrive.     And be VERY prepared to begin resuscitation.

Good work :)

Thanks, your post (and some less intelligent ones by some "helpful" members of LW) was my inspiration. I've linked back to your sticky in this one; the two go well together.

Seriously if I thought I'd overdose on something or had an alcohol poisoning I wouldn't give a shit about what some parents thought. I'd call for an ambulance.

lol this ^^ xx

Good for you. Unfortunately that's often not the case; I'm personally familiar with several situations where people have died for these reasons. Also, keep in mind that both of you live somewhere with publicly-funded healthcare. You aren't out hundreds of dollars if someone throws up and you call an ambulance when they don't need it.

Given Greatescape's (amazing) sticky it might be a bit redundant, but I think that it's worth having up there as well for the "ZOMG my friend is puking drunk, what do I do?!" crowd.
