Replies Rainbow Blight Posted at 1:50 pm on Jan. 10, 2009 Isn't substance dependency/addiction itself classified as a mental disorder just like depression or anxiety disorder in the DSM-IV*?  I haven't checked in awhile, but hospital charts and files that I've looked at behind the staffs' desks while everyone was asleep, primarily out of boredom, seemed to indicate that it is classified as one. *Actually I just checked a DSM-IV just now and it's classified as a disease under 'chemical dependency disorder.' Keep in mind though that this is not *necessarily* my opinion; it is just what the DSM-IV says (but it's not like the DSM-IV is some kind of omniscient Bible).
