she got caught by her parents about a week ago. this wasnt the first time. she is in alot of trouble and has completely stopped with the drugs altogether, completely abruptly. they have been drug testing her. she no longer smokes either.
her mood swings are basically unbearable. she's tired, her heartbeat is strange. she's very happy for awhile and then completely crashes into depression. she gets very touchy about alot of things and irritated easily. she gets mad easily and often. she'll be very standoffish at random points.
can someone help me understand what is happening? is it definitely oxycontin that she is withdrawing from or are these just normal symptoms in any withdrawal at all? has anyone been through this?
its tearing me apart to watch her go through this. i dont know what i can do to help...especially when i never know how she will react to me. if you have any advice please reply.
I take it for legitimate purposes for extended periods of time and abuse it atleast a few times a week, the withdraw symptoms aren't terrible because I never let the drug take control of me, but it definetly makes you irritable, and i get alot of headaches.
Usually a super small dose (5 or 10 mg) will satisfy my minor addiction enough to make the symptoms go away (similar to giving methadone to recovering heroin addicts)
I would just try and advise her to spend a few days alone watching tv and eating cheetos.
such a sudden stop is never good and is something i would never advise. Dont leave her, she needs your help now. it may take a couple of months but unless she starts doing the drugs again she will improve dramatically. she must be in a heck of a lot of trouble to stop so quickly. oxycontin isnt something that you should just stop taking. you should take other drugs along side it and eventualy cut the oxycontin out and the the other drugs. i highly recomend that you speak to your parents and get them to speak to her parents about going to the doctors. it must be a hard time but try and stick with it. if she looses a close friend now she may become suicidal.
exellent reply.
if it gets to bad you also may want to suggest a methadone clinic.
