last night my boyfriends laptop randomly turned off on him, and hes tried to turn it bacc on after it cooled off but all it does is show that the light on the laptop is on, but nothing comes up on the screen or anything.. his laptop is only about a year and a half old, i think it might have to do with the fact that he rarely ever turns it off, any suggestions on how to fix it or if it is even fixable at all..?

That could be a number of things. If the laptop is still under warranty, you should check the laptop company website for info about repairs.

Also, keeping computers on all the time makes them last longer. Things wear out mostly when you turn it on and off.

but if you dont let it cool down or anything like that, isnt that bad for the computer??

If the computer is properly cooled, heat isn't a problem. Was this laptop getting very hot?

im not sure, i wasnt there when it happened but ive seen his laptop get pretty hot before and hes dismissed it like its nothing. is there person above who said its something with the display  or lighting correct??

Could be. If the laptop has a regular monitor port, you could try plugging the laptop into a regular monitor to see if that works. If it doesn't, then it's probably not the display. It could be a problem with the bios or video card, or some other problem like bad memory, a motherboard problem, or if the laptop got really hot, a burnt out processor. LCD screens do have a little fluorescent light bulb in them, but I've never seen one burn out suddenly--it's usually a gradual darkening/yellowing over time.

thank you so much, ill tell my boyfriend all this. you are a lot of help and im glad you gave me your input on it : )
