I have the option to buy a notebook from work for fairly cheap, and I need one for school. I plan on using it for writing, schoolwork, the internet, and probably some really minor web-page editing for a friend. One is much cheaper, but it's a Compaq, and I've heard some bad things...so, based on what I have, I'm looking for a bit of advice on which to choose..... The options are:

Toshiba Intel® Centrino® Duo Mobile Technology Intel® Core™ Duo Processor T2050 ---- $749

Intel® PRO/Wireless LAN 802.11g, Windows® XP Media Center Edition 2005 software, 1024MB DDR2 memory and 100GB hard drive. Reads and writes DVDs and CDs. Windows® Vista™ Premium Ready. 15.4" TruBrite™ Widescreen. (A105-S4284)

***OR***

Compaq Intel® Celeron® M Processor 430 ---- $549

Windows® XP Media Center Edition 2005 software, 512MB DDR2 memory, 100GB hard drive, reads and writes DVDs and CDs, and integrated 802.11 wireless LAN. Windows® Vista™ Capable. 15.4" BrightView Widescreen. (V6105NR)

Thanks!

Thanks, I appreciate the input. I wasn't so sure about the compaq anyway, I've heard negative things.

2 reasons why
1 - 1gig memory... BIG NECESSITY ANYMORE
2 - duo processor, much better then a crapyon

I can get a gateway for another $400, but I've had one and I HATED it. I get protection through work for a pretty good deal, so I'm not too worried about the warrenty on it. I also get a free upgrade to Vista on both.

You'd be better with the first pick, Toshiba.

I have an HP, even though Compaq is part of HP same thing pretty much, i'd get the Toshiba.

Unless you get the better warranty, protection with the Compaq.

Are those the only options or can you pick another company?

Just don't get Dell.

HP has awesome support, if you ever need it.
