Have fun, the new auto window resizing seems pretty cool as well as the new Bluetooth file transfer stuff.

Haha, I love how they threw away Windows "Sidebar" hehe. It sucked ha

  Enjoy!

The sidebar is an amazing feature. It gives me a place to keep my gadgets. Anyway, i wish people would stop talking about this like it is new. Gadgets have always been able to run on the desktop like they do in 7. They have done since the first version of Vista.

As for the talk of the windows 7 beta (note, not pre beta, current beta) and the vista UI in it, this is a registry change to get the new UI. It comes with the Vista one by default. Search the web on this one, lifehacker had an article explaining the change the other week.

yeah i got that shiz going.

 http://www.golivewire.com/forums/peer-yyisesi-support-a.html

and also, there's a more recent build (6933). so this really is the pre-beta. or alpha i guess.

oh yeah. and i found that the sidebar was a memory hog and took up a good portion of my screen which is why i never used it, though the tools are handy.

Actually, can you find something out for me. I know gadgets are still in 7, but is the sidebar still an option? or some form of dockable view on the side for gadgets? I have a 3 monitor setup, so docking them is actually a nice feature for me. as i dont care for the space so much

The Gadgets are movable around the screen, Various ones have the ability to increase in size for higher res, Altho there is no actual Sidebar option in Build 6801 there is the possiblity that it may be made available in future Builds and it is also worth noting that the Gadgets have the ability to align themselves at a certain distance from the side of the screen and if placed correctly could pretty much appear as if they where placed inside an invisable sidebar lol

I'm looking around and I'm not seeing anything like that. Sorry bro. But this version is pretty lean and mean I think. Maybe they'll throw it in as an option in later builds.

I expect they will leave it in as a policy editor option or a reg tweak at the very least... live in hope...

Technology is my hobby. Its what I do. Its my career. Im mildly obsessed. If there were ANY reports of MS servers being compromised, or them releasing any sort of virus or malware, believe me, everyone who has ever read any tech blog would know about it.

It didnt happen. Either you were duped and are just to proud to admit it, or you seriously have no idea what you are talking about.

  Get over it.

Okay, now think about this, huh. Microsoft is a business. A profitable business which, like Electronic Arts, relies on mass-production. In this case, they want to have a Windows system running on every computer world-wide.

Now, if they did release a statement that one of their servers got comprimised, but that it got fixed. They send out an open challenge for hackers to infiltrate their servers and fuck it up. They also send out a message that there are security holes in their operating systems that can be abused. Just because they fixed this one, doesn't cancel out that fact.

What would happen is that this will effect their sales. It's the same with US schools teaching about how the Federal Reserves work with the banks in reality. People would question the government more, seek more mistakes in the system and they'd be under more attention. It's better for the company/government to focus attention away from it to keep their efforts focused.

Just because they don't announce it, doesn't mean it doesn't happen..

But your missing one key fact:

If there was a problem, more than just you would have it.

Again, Microsoft has Windows running on millions of computers world wide. Add in the fact that hackers do love to brag and get credit for there work, someone other than you would know about it.

The news media would pick it up. People would know about it.

  End of story.

Where did you ever read me stating I'm the only person that I'm aware of that recieved that? Microsoft servers are scattered worldwide to allow a faster connection. You're in America, I'm in Europe and I've heard people I know locally about the same issue. So maybe it was an European server hosting it?

Again this is all from 2 years back, it's checking a fucking corpse for a pulse.

 Thats not relevant. At all.

MSs African servers could be compromised, and it would still be a bigger story than someone inventing a cure for cancer.

Anything like you are describing would be BIG news. Internationally, and locally.

Ugh.. do you actually read what I say? You just converted back 2 posts..

No, Im saying you dont know anyone who has legitimately had that problem, and its not just the fact that Im in the US and you arent. If it happened, it would be big news.

I said I just ignored cosmetical updates, but security updates that are actually relevant for my activity on the computer, I do download.

Yes, but manually screening updates for whether they're "relevant" or not takes time and gives you a disadvantage over people who let them happen automatically, particularly if you accidentally forget to check them for a while.

I actually have the discipline to do that. I always did that once every 2 days and let my anti-virus scan once every 3 days. It didn't take more than half an hour to screen through the updates.
