I've also checked out the ubuntu and wubi forums and haven't found anything useful. I don't really have money for an external hdd now. What distro do you use? climber783 Posted at 10:22 pm on April 16, 2008 The profile import shouldn't be required.  I've installed Ubuntu or various builds off of it half a dozen times, and I've never been required to import a profile. Using the Wubi installer can bring some problems.  Using the traditional installer is honestly not all that complicated, you could try it that way, rather than fighting just to get an installer working.
