Content feeds

You use an RSS reader and it will notify you when there is something new.

Some sites also use them for media. For instance, one torrent site I use that specializes in TV shows has an RSS feed of your favorite shows. That way whenever a new episode is released, it will automatically download it.

I think it's like you subscribe to a site and they send you emails or something when the site is updated.

Short answer: Many sites offer RSS feeds, so you can read posts on the site without having to actually go to the site itself.  All you need is an RSS reader or a website such as Google or Yahoo that can handle a RSS feed.

Basically, it's getting the story to go to you, instead of you having to go to the story.

It gives a website easy ways to alert 'subscribers' when a new post is made (blogs, news sites, review sites, etc).
