Im downloading fonts they download as a zip file. i want to use them on ms paint, ms word and wordpad. what folder do i download and save them to?

If you are using Vista just left click install and voila there ya go.

VISTA:

Download the font, it might be contained inside a .rar compressed folder, in which case you will need winrar or something similar to open it.

When you have extracted the contents of the .rar folder, you can simply right click and hit the install, Windows will then automatically install the font for you. It will now be available in all programs.

XP:

Download the font, it might be contained inside a .rar compressed folder, in which case you will need winrar or something similar to open it.

When you have extracted the contents of the .rar folder, right click the font and select copy.

Open up this folder using windows explorer:

C:\WINDOWS\Fonts

And press CTRL+V to Paste the font in, windows will automatically install the font making it available for use immediatly.

C:/WINDOWS/Fonts/ I believe. It might be C:/WINDOWS/System 32/Fonts/ though, see which one exists and place it there.
