a graphics card that says it supports directx8.1, will it support directx9?

It most certainly should, if it says dx 8.1 compatible, it should work with all versions above should lol

Go for it, you can always re-install 8.1 again.

However the dx question is normally the other way round lol *will dx 9 support my graphics card*, and if 8.1 does, so should 9
