I bought the asus transformer prime tablet on the 24th.. a week before that i had the original transformer.. i then exchanged it for the prime..at first i was excited to get the transformer prime, but after having it for a week ill admit the battery and camera are really good but its not as responsive as id like and its prerty expensive $500 for the tablet and $150 for the dock.. its difficult to write papers on.. should i return it? Whats your advice? Should i save up for a macbook pro? Would it be worth it? I currently have a toshiba laptop but the battery lasts for like 3 hrs and im bored with it. I am looking for a device with good battery, not too heavy to carry and feels sturdy..Also im a bit worried because on the receipt it says "any product purchased between 10/9 and 12/24 may be returned with receipt by 1/15/12. Package must be unopened and in resale condition".. mine is in good condition, i just dont like it as much as i thought i would :/ thanks!

Depends.
Are you aiming more towards a notebook or a tablet?

Its my first tablet. I thought it would be easier to type and alla that. Id be happy with a nice notebook/netbok. I think the macbook air would be perfect if it wasnt for its shit battery life..

Tablets (at least of the iPad/android variety) are purely consumption devices. They're not really useful for typing on.

I would recommend a solid netbook / ultraportable / whatever buzzword marketing companies are using this week.

I have a Lenovo x120e and am very happy with it, it gets around 5-7 hours of battery life (and charges pretty quick), it's an 11.6" inch screen so it's fairly portable, and can handle pretty much everything I need it to. I can even do light gaming on it.

It's also a pretty good price at $450.

Of course, like all laptops, you'll want to uninstall the bloatware it comes with or else it will feel slow. It's also worth installing the generic synaptic touchpad drivers instead of the lenovo ones, which are kind of shitty.

I don't really know why people buy tablets yet. You can save money and get more functionality (in most regards) in buying a netbook which is about 1/3 the price.

I agree. I have a macbook air that i got for a great price that is the size of most tablets and 10000 times more functional. I <3 it.

True.
You can always buy a keyboard that connects to the tablet.
I have the iPad 2. It's not bad, but it becomes a pain in the ass to type with the on screen touch keyboard.
I find the portable keyboard to be pretty handy, especially since I hate dragging a heavy laptop around that has a shitty battery life.

Theres an optional keyboard, but since this device is pretty new its also rare to find anything for it! Can you write papers, for example reseach papers well on your ipad? Know any good apps?

If your getting productive use out of it, take it back. I will admit even Ipad 2 is difficult to type on even with simple post as these and backspacing can be time consuming.
