Lenovo is usually pretty high quality in my experience.
They're usually not very pretty, but they're solid.

The ThinkPad Edges are the prettiest ones (especially with the red lid. Not sure about anywhere else in the world, but nothing comes close value-for-money wise.

I don't speak the native language of Brazil, so I'll give you this: http://www.lenovo.com/br/pt/ and say go and look there at the Edges.

You can probably get away with an i3 for what you're wanting to do.

after using a mac for 2 years, i wouldn't recommend one

Really?!!?

the charging cable has poor build quality and costs a tenth of the price of the machine to fix, and you will definitely need to replace it at some point. the metallic case makes it prone to ugly dents, and tbh it doesn't represent good value for money.

the only thing i like about it is that os x seems pretty nice to use, and the touchpad is the fucking greatest touchpad ever, but the pros do not outweigh the cons.

at least 7 hours would be nice.
it can't be heavy (no more than 3.5-4lbs)
no plastic feel, want it to look nice and feel nice

maybe a netbook then as you already stated you do not care much for a CD drive

i've been researching netbooks for the past few weeks, i almost bought the asus eee pc 1018 but realized i wouldn't be happy with it.

why the heck would you pay 1000 plus just for a laptop youre just using for basic functions

i find it a bit sad that people feel the need to get a mac and all they do is look at facebook and use word

I don't get it either. I needed a computer a few years ago and all of my friends were all "Get a Mac!" but all I needed my computer for is doing research and writing papers. So I got a PC and it cost me about $400 haha.
