Points for anyone who can help me out on this.

We've just got the internet back, and it works fine on my computer. However, the internet on the computer downstairs doesn't work at all.

The last time the internet stopped working, the woman on the other end of the phone told me to unplug our netgear router and just stick the ethernet cable directly into the computer, which I did, and it worked very well.

Of course, that means that the internet downstairs doesn't work. So I tried plugging it in again, with exactly the same set up as before, but it doesn't work.

I have a funny feeling I'm going to have to go on that ipconfig screen again.

Help please :(

Try resetting your modem.

Mine did that, I reset my modem and it was fine.

How would one do that?

Safest / Most Effective Way:
1 - Turn off all computers/internet sources attached to modem/router.
2 - Unplug the power from the router if your using one.
3 - Unplug the power from the modem.
4 - Sing your ABC's, give everything a couple seconds to cool down.
5 - Plug the power back into the modem, wait for about 2 minutes or so for everything to connect.
6 - Plug the power back into your router if using one, wait about a minute for it to establish the connection with the modem.
7 - Crank up your computers.

Unplug the black cable that slots into the back. There's two on mine, it's the thinnest one without the metal edge... If that makes sense. Unplug it for 10 seconds, then plug it back in.

Or if it plus into a plug socket, unplug it, and plug it back in. =]
