....is there a way that you can turn off the thing that when you type in a box there is a little drop down box? Does anyone know what I'm talking about? Is it called autocomplete or something?

Tools -> Internet Options -> Delete History. (IE 6, I assume)
I would also recommend you delete files to clear the cache.
