| Google is brilliant like this. I use Docs very often, because I can access it from anywhere, without much issue. You've got a point, where in the world is it saved. It's a server, is what it is. One big, big server that they use just for it. Think of LiveWire. Where is it saved? Same kind of area. Although Docs most likely has it's own format that it saves it in to save them space. |

Assume its just saved on the Google servers? Yeah they're saved online via your google acc.
why would they do this for free? There are no advertisements in my gmail 0.0
They get their advertising from elsewhere too, it's not exactly like google is short of unique hits.. |

Go into Gmail, open up a message and then look on the right for "Sponsored Links", you will see the advertising there. |

Nope. Google do all that for free. I think you have at least 2GB storage space for all your files. Not sure the exact amount, i think its more though. They provide it for free hoping that some of the people will use there payed for services!
Makes sense. |

Google Docs stores the information onto Google's webservers. Imagine lots of warehouses just full of hard drives connected to a big server and then the Internet. Microsoft Office saves the files locally onto your hard drive and not Microsofts.
oh. they'll run out of space eventually... |
