I turned on my laptop and everything was fine but then it said "Failure- security options" and then the screen showed up with no icons.  Then it turned off and turned back on.  Now, the screen is black with just the cursor.  I can more the cursor around though.  When I try to turn it off it goes to sleep and then I open it, it goes back to the same screen.  Has anyone else had this problem?  How do I fix it?  If worst comes to worst I'll just call customer service.  It's a Toshiba btw.

Take out the battery then put it back in.

What about safe mode? Does it work in that? Have you tried inserting in the original Windows install disk and set it into recovery mode to repair the installation? You can press the letter 'r' on the keyboard when you put the disc in to do this.
