This is where it came from:
Anybody know what it is? I have a Dell Inspiron 1501 if that helps. It didn't do anything to my comp when I took it out. Right after I put it back in and went back to my comp I noticed that it was frozen, and then a couple seconds later it unfroze. idk if that was related or not.
inb4your dumb, retarded, etc
There's a panel on the bottom of my laptop that's fastened with two screws. But idk what's under it.
Either the RAM or the WiFi card, my laptop is a slight bit newer than yours, an Inspiron 1520, and it has two panels underneath it, the RAM is under one which is fastened with one screw, the WiFi card (and an extra two slots for similar such cards) is under the other panel.
SATA supports hotplug, so you theoretically can just pull the drives out and then shove them back in and the hardware should continue to work, but I'm surprised windows continued running without the hard drive. Isn't really safe for the data on the hard drive, either. My computer has the hard drive behind the same sort of panel, but it is fastened with two screws at the bottom.

Quote: from Ancient at 12:30 pm on June 29, 2009 It may be a removable hard drive. Not the main drive, but something like a backup drive. I'm sure they wouldn't make the main hard drive so easy to remove.yeah, they usually do. it's not more than a panel held in by a screw that stops you from taking it out. i lolled at this topic, yeah that is your hard drive, you should never even touch that with the computer plugged in let alone when it's on, you can seriously damage your computer and the hard drive. most computers don't come with such a drive, i highly doubt it would be a backup drive. from the diagram it's a 60GB SATA drive which doesn't sound too bad for a laptop that's probably a few years old.

Yup, that's definitely your hard drive. I'm surprised they let you take it out so easily... Probably not a good thing to touch... lol
