When I was first into programming, about 6 1/2 years ago, I taught myself C++ through a book. I got interested in making games so I started using Game Studio A5, that was pretty good, but I realized it was just a click together. Eventually I found Blitz3D, which took some skill, but it didn't have as much possibilities as I wanted, I'm going to start using XNA, has anyone used it before?
