Well i've got a Subaru Impreza 2.0, and its an AWD.
Ive heard it will damage the car if i drift etc.

Does any one know why?

A properly modded 2.0 can do anything.

2.0>2.5 anyways

Like hinshawwrx said.. it will destroy most of the drivetrain..

I have an STI, and I've gotten sideways in it.. but that's because I have it set up to send 65% of the power to the rear tires, and when I first got it I kept downshifting during turns and give it gas...  that would just bring the rear end around, I'm surprised I'm alive.
So yes.. an Impreza can slide the rear end for a little time..  but you do a bunch of damage, and I don't think the 2.0 version can do it unless the roads are really slippery.

...Just don't do it, you'll screw up everything.

Wow....

On a subaru you can disengage the AWD by pulling a fuse, however I believe it disables only the rear. (can't remember off the top of my head) and even doing so will not allow you to "drift"

"drifting" is done on sticky pavement with slicks, an AWD car doesn't drift. It does during rally competitions slide through corners because of loose gravel, soil, mud, snow, ice, etc etc etc.

As to the main reason WHY you can't drift an AWD car, its because the strain on the driveline would be incredible. You have power going to all 4 wheels on the Subaru, sliding around on this would cause axels to snap, the energy would also shear gears and destroy the rear end. Its simply stupid.

It is too much of a strain on drivetrain and all that crap.  But in very wet or snowy conditions the '98 Legacy Outback (Turbo) here can be very fun.

If you want to know a proper drift setup for a Subaru go on a specific drifting forum, and it will be much harder without the extra power an STI has (STI are the ones usually converted for drifting).  If you want to drift your current setup just stuck to dirt/gravel and do some rally style.

I believe it is too much strain on the engine, too many reeves.
Too much strain on drivetrain and suspension.  What are reeves ?

you cant drift with awd.have a mechanic take the front wheel drive out.

So why would someone buy an all wheel drive car, just so they can pull the front drive? You do realize a subaru looks like this, right ?

Left is the front end, right is the rear end of the car.
