Its that the 4L60-E (same transmission in Eric's Impala and your old Commodore)

Impala has 4T65E

T = Transverse (fwd base)
L = Longitudnal (rwd base)

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. While I don't think the Tempo is a particularly sexy car, I find its external aesthetics interesting nonetheless. Its design (which to the average eye is "ugly" or "bland") is almost a representative of change and innovation; thinking outside the box.

Unlike Spencer I am not picky. I'll take any Tempo no matter how banged up or ugly. All it means is I'll have something to do on those summer afternoons when my friends are busy.

Conor, dont fight it, SOME PEOPLE dont realize how good SOME CARS really ARE.

I really want to just say don't get an ugly piece of shit tempo, but that doesn't work any more.

Or get a shitty version of a good car and fix her up. Truthfully, $600 for a Tempo is a dirt cheap bargain. I've only ever seen two under $1,000. I can't afford over $600 or so at the moment so I don't have much choice.

So you want a shitty version of a "good car" when you could find a good version of the "good car"
FTF Posted at 12:09 am on Jan. 2, 2009
These cars are just that good.
ss454 Posted at 11:35 pm on Jan. 1, 2009
Why don't you go find a nicer tempo or topaz.  I can't see why you'd want a shit bucket that's had the hell beaten out of it.
FTF Posted at 11:04 pm on Jan. 1, 2009
Fair enough, but I don't plan on this one being the last. I've got my eye on this beat-to-hell '90 GL Sedan. No options, many busted parts, plenty of dents, automatic, and its got 190,000 miles on the clock. Its in this incredibly ugly color. Spencer's least favorite color and he is a Tempo enthusiast. I will try and get this car though. Even if it means giving up on the MG Midget deal. I just can't pass it up, and all it needs to be a fantastic car is some TLC.

Its pretty stupid to think that because your tempo worked with 6 year old oil that Ford > GM.

I recall a time when people were so sure my Tempo was going to die as soon as it hit the road, having run on old oil and fluids. Well, 4k later and nothin. People were 100% sure I had a blown gasket. Nothing. Everyone figured I'd never get it back to above-average condition. Wrong again.

From this we can conclude, you guys know jack shit about Tempos.

Notice how you said we dont know jack shit about tempos?

If I recall, you own 1 Tempo, thus what you just said applys to only 1 tempo and thus gives me the impression that you think 1 case applys to all.

Its not just that. Its that the 4L60-E (same transmission in Eric's Impala and your old Commodore) went out on our Silverado at 83,000 miles. This truck mind you has had immaculate maintenance, has never had more then 600lbs. in the bed, never went over 70MPH, and it has never towed a trailer in its entire existence. In that respect Ford was making a more durable, reliable compact car in 1989 then Chevrolet is making now in trucks.

Then you've got the fact that of the three Chevrolet vehicles my family has owned in the past five years have run us over $2,000 in unexpected repairs. The two Fords and two Dodges have cost us under $500 in repairs.
