Its going to turn into a money pit. Be prepared to spend 3k in maintenance, whether scheduled or random, in the first year. You've been warned.

for me personally buying a old bmw with 165k miles on it i wouldnt trust it not if i was going to use it everyday or long trips but you never know if it was serviced correctly and taken care of you might have just found your self a bargain

I would personally buy it then sell it right away, I Don't trust a 11 year old BMW.

first off, it doesn't matter how many miles the car has.

Bull shit

Ya, miles do affect the price, no where near what people think but it does. The rust and engine maintenance are the biggest things, so check for that, I mean a 01' BMW for 3k is good, specially without rust and engine issues, and could resold for more on craigslist and such. I'd say do what I'm doing (I own a Lexus Ls430 01') and drive it for a year or 2 then sell it for more than you bought it for.

ha i have a 1995 ford explorer with over 180,000 miles on it.
you will be okay

Thats a Ford, this is a BMW. apples and oranges. check your undercarriage for rust.

OP, thats a good deal. in two years you could sell it for 5 if you wanted.

SLOPALA Posted at 7:31 pm on June 6, 2012
anyone saying you will be OK is silly.

first off, it doesn't matter how many miles the car has.

how it was maintained will tell you if it's a good deal or not.

questions.

did your uncle keep up on oil changes, BMW recommended service intervals with the dealer and take care of the paint (read: good car washes to prevent stuff that starts rust and avoiding scratches and fixing them when they come up)

if you answer yes on all this, yeah. it will likely very well be a good car.

other question. is it a six cylinder (3.0i) or V8 (4.0i/4.4i)
