im thinking of making a website.
i have a few ideas as to what it would be about, but im not sure what the perfect idea for a popular website would be.

if there was a website you'd visit often, what would it be.

wait until you have an idea. Then think if you would actually use it yourself or not. Wait a few days. Think the same thing. If you would use it yourself, make your website.

The only reason I'm saying this is because anybody that's going to use your website will only use it if your site is professionally designed/hosted (i.e. it is fast, it works, and it looks good). This takes a lot of time and effort, so wait until you have a good idea before you make it. I find websites that post blog-like articles on certain things particularly helpful. For example, you could post resources to web design stuff, you could make tutorials, etc.

But no matter what you do, remember that you will have to make your own content. You will have to spend time... lots of time...

It's got to be something you know they will keep coming back to, is open to a large group or at least a big enough crowd, and can be updated easily.
