I find it funny how people today think that they love peace, and are totally against killing and war. If everyone is so peaceful, then why are people killing each other all over the world? Comparing the past century to those before it, there was no reduction in the belligerence of humans, contrary to what many may think, because they think that our society is more 'civilized' than our ancestors. Now there will probably be those that will say that it is not western people who did the killing in the past century, but brainwashed savages or something similar.

It is lovely to think that people have passed the phase of killing each other, but they have not. War is as omnipresent as it always was. War, as one of the means to get what you need, is common to humans, and perfectly rational. You are stronger, you use your strength to take something from someone weaker. Most people oppose this, calling it barbaric, but, after a brief persuasion by the media, many of those people become pro-war, usually for the causes such as 'defending freedom', for example. Those causes may not be relevant to the situation at all, but if the media says so, then it must be that way, right?? Usual thing you need are 'the bad guys': terrorists, communists, you name it. Make them look really bad, and all those peaceful people will start running around, screaming for war. So, the war stays with the humans, just like it always was. Humans push their moral beliefs to the side, because of what the authority has told them.

Now to my point: I find it really cynical of the modern society to preach peace, when in fact it is as belligerent as it always was. Basically the entire society is lying itself. Well, actually, the leading part of the society does the lying, but the rest of it is not trying to resist at all. So, my question is: if the humanity is like that, then why does it lie itself at all? Why doesn't it just accept that war, as a concept, is here to stay? I'm really sick of the cynicism of the modern political scene.

I don't understand man's fascination with war, but it's been a strong passion of his since the dawn of mankind, and will ultimately be there until the last breath is taken.

In the end, I don't think anybody wants war. At least, anyone who has not been swayed by religious or political persuasion (which is virtually everyone). But I can guarantee that if you ask a child if he'd rather go to war or see everyone get along, he would choose the latter. there is this incredible lack of empathy that is very unbecoming of man; it's quite saddening but I don't think anyone has found a way around it. However, I do think we are getting closer to world peace; that or total destruction. People may be as belligerent but I think most of the world's citizens are more tolerant as a whole. Globalization has certainly benefited the world, and I hope that with time, humans will soon start to understand and appreciate those that are different from them. Then again, it's been hundreds of thousands of years and people still are having difficulty with that concept.

So I should shoot you while your back is turned and then take your wallet?

No you shouldn't, because social norms tell you not to. But this is world politics. Social norms and moral don't count for much there.
You shooting me and taking my wallet is not rational, as you would probably get to jail for just a couple of dollars.
