points being given out for using the PM service. Only because if you start using that regularly then you're more likely to donate to make your inbox larger. Probably not one point per message, more like one per 2 messages, but still. It's an idea I guess.

People use the PM loads already, I have no real desire to see members move from the forums and converse in PM more just so they can essentially gain loads of points. It's a stupid idea.

I don't think regular members are averse to PM usage now. Besides why do we want to reward people for private messaging, it doesn't contribute to the community, or grow livewire as a resource.

It doesn't grow Livewire as a resource because PMing isn't seen as a feature of LW, which it should be.

I just don't see how sending/receiving more PMs means that people will want a larger inbox. Are enough people really saving PMs that they have a need for more space? It's not as though you can't receive messages if your inbox is full, so I don't think that simply having a higher rate of usage of the PM system would call for need of a larger inbox.

For example my inbox is 105% full.

I find it doubtful that people would be more inclined to donate for a larger inbox if they were to earns points from PMs. Don't really see the connection there.

Here's the connection: if you regularly use the PM system (which you're likely to choose over Facebook or whatever if you get points for it) you're more inclined to want a larger inbox and therefore more inclined to donate. Plus I think more people would recommend this to friends as a way to have a support system as well as a way of interacting with friends.

No, people would just start spamming PMs full of "." or equally pointless things.

We have a blocking and messenger abuse system

what about point abuse between two consenting jackasses

"hey how are you?"
"good, how are you?"
"good, how are you?"
"good, how are you?"
"good, how are you?"
"good, how are you?"
"good, how are you?"
"."

ad infinitum

Much like DTRM, huh?

Sounds like you just want some more points and you are trying to sell it to david by saying that people will pay for a larger inbox which isn't true. There is a secret to getting more points very quickly, but I don't want to reveal it to everyone publically.

That doesn't really matter. Abuse systems haven't stopped the spamming in forums much, if at all.

Even if you block them, the damage is already done. If they're banned, they'll just make another account and probably do it again and again until they're permabanned.
