Konitti wa!    konichi,    french maybe It's konitti. Trust me. I have a friend who has been studying Japanese for at least 10 years. *Konnichiwa is another romnization of the same word. Your friend uses the Nihon-shiki romnization then, but as far as I know, a lot of people still use the Hepburn system too (which is where you get Konnichiwa). So you're both right, in a way.
