So I'm a poor college student, I have been thinking of putting together a little cook book. Pick out your favorite recipe and type it up make sure that the sum of all the required ingredients cost less the ten dollars and submit it as a post in this topic. Things like sugar, flower, milk and butter do not have to be accounted for but things like special spices should be included as a cost.

Format as follows:

Name
total estimated cost.
cook time
ingredients list/amounts/estimated cost
cooking instructions

All entry's must include the above to be considered.

All entry's will appear on my web site with credit given to the author (if your would like your real name listed please contact me via PM) unless you specifically ask me not to post it.

Please make separate post for multiple recipes.

300pts for the winner, 100pts for the runner up (both chosen by me).

Because of the inactivity of this forum I thought I might leave this contest open for a while so it will end on the 9th of June (my birthday:>).

Not so healthy, but oh so vegan and oh so good potato chips.

Yum... I love potato chips, but when I went vegan I didn't know what else was fried in the oil that the chips were fried in... so I gave up trying to find a vegan kind. Now I have my own! They taste different than regular potato chips, so don't expect them to taste the same.... especially with the different root vegetables.

Ingredients:

1 carrot             1.00
1 potato            1.00
1 sweet potato   1.00
Cooking Oil (Canola oil, vegetable oil, etc).

You can add any other root vegetable you want... but those are pretty basic.

Put the oil into the pan unti there is a thin layer that covers the bottom of the pan. Turn the heat onto medium high. (You'll be able to tell when the oil is hot when you put a drop of water into the oil and it spits/ sizzles) (Remember... for grease fires NEVER put water on them, always use salt) Wash and peel off the outside of the vegetable. Then Peel the vegetable into thin slices (about the size of a potato chip) if you don't have a vegetable peeler... then you can cut them into thin slices with a knife. Just be sure to make them very thin.

Once the oil is hot put some of the vegetables into the pan (don't over fill it or they won't cook right). If necessary, flip the chips over so that they can get crisp on both sides. Watch until the vegetables are crispy then remove them and place them on a paper towel. Salt or add any seasonings if you wish.

Ta-da! Your own, vegan, chips! YAY!

Total Cost: Less than $5, depending on the price of your vegetables.

oooh oki i like this recipe
um im not excatly sure how much it costs cuz i dotn know how much food costs in texas if its the same as in ny but under $10 n it makes a bunch of food

1 pound bag maccaroni (any kind u want)
3 of those little like i think 8oz cans of tomatoe sauce
1/2 pint of hevy cream
1 cup of milk
3 chieck cutlets (really however many as u want tho)

1. um cook macaronie (itll say how on the bag but just boil n throw it in pretty simple lolx)

2. at the same time put in the sauce (in a diff, smaller pot but not too small) and wait till like u start to c a bit of bubbles popping up and thnen pour in 1/2 the cream and 1/2 the milk  -stir- (DONT LET IT START BOILING if it does turn off the heat n wait a min for it to cool then jus turn heat back on agen)

3. after u have just put the sauce wash and clean ur chicken n cut it into small strips maybe like the size of ur thumb n that width i mean dont measure exactly but about that size or a bit bigger is good cook it in a pan on the stove if u have room if u dont u can cook it in the oven but i dotn know how long that will take being as i have never really cooked it that way but u shuld be able to tell

4. gradually add in the rest of the milk/ cream to the saucee and keep stirring it

5. watch the chicken it doesnt take long to cook when its done turn off the heat and add it to the sauce (yes also make sure u ahv room in ur sauce pot for it)

6. the maccaroni shuld be done soon when its nice and soft or however u like it take it out and strain it for about a minute

7. then just pour it in a plate and mix it with the sauce (witht he chicken) and eat it

its reaaly yummiefulls
lol it might sound hard the recipe but its really not iv been cooking it by myself since i was like 12 lol (i was bored n was like hmm what can i make lol so i kinda made it up its good tho i swear)

lol well hav fun n good luck =)
