Ok I am taking piano and drum lessons.

I've been taking piano lessons for 3 years. When taking piano lessons, I am not nervous around her or anything like that. I just go in there and play and if I mess up, I mess up. But for the most part I do fine. However, when I am in front of people and I play a song they recognize and they start singing along, I start messing up. I am not sure why that is. And I start to sweat really bad.

With my drum lessons(which has only been a month so far) I get hella nervous when playing around him. I start to sweat and all these fears run through my mind, with the most common one being that I will mess up or I will be playing it wrong or something like that...

Any idea why those who get nervous get nervous and is there a way to get over that because I want to perform in front of people and I cannot do that with this nervousness hanging over my head. Thanks!!!!!

I know it is stupid, but doing things like picturing the people watching in their underwear really can relax you if you are feeling stressed.
Or get a friend there to watch you play. Someone that you trust and can make you feel more confident.

hey, im a drummer too.
i used to get nervous, but what i do is i stare at a blank part on a wall and concentrate on that, and the song i am playing turns out great, as for the sweating, dont worry about it, do what i said and you wont be nervous so you wont sweat ;)

You must be doing something wrong, every drummer I know is an egomaniac.

Really, it never really goes away, I have been playing for years and in front of some large crowds. I still get stage fright to the point that i vomit.

You have to channel the nervousness. make it work for you and not the reverse.

It's probably because you are a beginner. Keep practising and you'll get better. Your confidence should increase once you are more experienced.
