Hey everyone. Just wanted to say that today on my bus home from school, we stopped to pick up 2 deaf kids who go to a famous, special school in my town. At first, I was really afraid and nervous about meeting a deaf person because I didn't know what to expect. But I just waved to a girl and signed to her "Hi, how are you?" and she signed "I'm good." She looked happy to have someone talk to her in sign language. I don't know much sign language, but it was enough. I used to feel uncomfortable around people like that, but now I realize it's not scary at all. In fact, I think being deaf is awesome because it seems so quiet and I HATE loud noises, especially when people consistently make them and don't stop. So I say if you are deaf, there's nothing wrong with it. And I feel proud of myself for socializing with someone like that. So just remember you guys, it's ok to be different.

I had surgery to correct a hearing issue in my right ear in December, I was lucky mine was correctable. I've got a piece of titanium in my ear. You don't know how frustrating it is to ask people to repeat themselves without looking like a moron. Being deaf or even half deaf is not a joke.

Being deaf is not "awesome." It's nice that you tried to make her comfortable, but in no way is it cool.
My boyfriends' parents are both deaf, and I doubt they consider it "awesome" to never hear their son speak, to have simple tasks such as buying supplies or asking directions be a challenge, and to be targets of derision or avoided by people that aren't quite so understanding as yourself.
It's a nice thought, but be careful with statements like that.

It is good that you made her happy, however I would not be happy to be deaf, because you will be missing out on so much in the world, but good job with the communication.

Deafness is a disability. It is, by definition, something
wrong
and I think it's rather disrespectful to the difficulties facing deaf people to declare that it's awesome.

Lmao, not sure about the whole "Deafness being awesome" thing, but still, it's good that your stereotypes disappeared.
