What you have to do is purchase a large group of them so the nipping spreads out among all of them and no damage is caused. I started out with two, and one was constantly badgering the other and nearly killed it. Then, I went out and purchased four more, and they were fine. I had found that if I fed them while they were fighting, they stopped. I just found one of the larger ones killed, and obviously from a wound on its side that allowed me to see INTO the fish. How can I stop them from fighting without separating them?!

Well, with the tiger barbs, my tank was a 10-gallon. I had to upgrade to a 30-gallon because my tank was getting overstocked, but by then the tiger barbs were all dead anyway. The larger ones really fought between themselves as opposed to ganging up on the small one. Well if you can afford it, I would suggest getting a larger tank and get a group of at least six of them. After the six I had died, I just stopped dealing with tiger barbs altogether.
