Throughout grade school, we're often presented with a clear picture regarding discrimination: white man discrminating against black man.  White man discriminating against the minority.  White man using his power to discriminate everybody else.

This paints a vivid image in our heads that white people are the racists and black people and other minorities are the victims.  As a result, this makes us predisposed to claim racism whenever a white person makes a statement that could be seen as derogatory against a minority.

But what you find schools not teaching you so much about is reverse discrimination - the kind of racism that emerges among blacks and minorities as a reaction to discrimination.  Often times, you'll get these people justifying this racism simply because it's a reaction, yet one has to wonder - is racism, whether it's a reaction or not, truly justified at all?  Especially on those whites who never took part in any kind of discrimination against minorities?

As a result of not learning about this view so much, people are often slow to perceive racist and derogatory statements made by minorities.  We don't often think of the white person as the victim in any racial issue.  Personally, I believe this truly needs to stop and needs to be highlighted far more than it is.  Reverse discrimination is as potent, dangerous, and immoral of a force as any kind of discrimination whites have ever brought upon minorities.

just like jake long said, it takes TIME!!

black people need time to get over the affects of slavery/segregation in this country...

we need time to get over racism in this country.

do you think the white people in south are done with their racism???

no!! it was like 50-60 years ago since segregation was done.

it was like 20 years ago since the 80's and YOU KNOW that racism wasn't done yet.

in 1995, they were still charging blacks more for cars and apartments and etc. etc.

it takes TIME!

stop making it out to be this thing that minorities are just angry at the white man and this that and the other thing

it takes time to get over these issues and to eliminate racism

Thank you. Seems like they always refer to slavery for our animosity. There's more to the story...they wont ever understand.

uuh you guys do realize that racism and discrimination have different definitions right? Discrimination is the act of judging or making a decision about someone based on something other than an attribute that should come into consideration. Racism is think one race is superior over all other races. But back to the underlying issue of this thread, discrimination and racism go both ways equally, and the fact that you made this thread proved your ignorance. You are judging a whole race by the actions of individuals, while complaining about basically someone doing the same thing to your race.

yea we know...but the better question is...are you reading the post? There was no point on saying that. And it doesnt go back and forth equally. You posting only proves your ignorance.

yep only verbal abuse...

As a whole, yes. I'm sure some of you may have stories of "OMG LYK MY FRIEND GOT BEAT UP BY NIGGERZ WHAT FUKS," but as a whole, I think most people can only complain about verbal abuse. I don't disagree that individually some people may have suffered otherwise, but as a whole, it is not nearly as bad as many of you have made it out to be. And I agree with what thabullsabeast has said.

Any posts that include the words 'I, me, or myself' are completely useless. We all have personal experiences, no fucking shit. We can all speak on behalf of entire races in regards to reverse discrimination, but the fact of the matter is, it doesn't occur as frequently as some of your personal experiences lead us to believe. We don't teach it because it's not worth being taught. I think a bunch of teenage angsters need to recognize that they are not the authoritative figures on education in the United States, and for good reason. Bud's point was well taken, however keep in mind his perspective of a 18 year old white kid who has a topic history of favoring his white bretheren. The same rule can apply for me as well, however I'm just stating the obvious.

Reverse Discrimination (The fact that you call it Reverse Discrimination actually proves your point entirely, I don't know why anyone has yet to mention this) is an issue in the United States, but nothing compared to the STILL LEGAL discrimination that many minorities face on a daily basis. You are comparing verbal abuse with denial of loans, jobs, etc. etc. As I stated though, that's your clearly biased viewpoint, and I have mine. However, I would like to say that most African Americans probably have a fairer view than you, the majority leader. I guess we will never know since we can only be born into race and we can not change it or choose it, not matter how hard some of us may try.

, I know many people who drive big pick-ups and use spitting tobacco bitch about some (Latin or Black) guy walking down the street without reason
yeah i seen that. thats not the worst. the worst is when you latino and you going to the library or the store and not doing anything wrong and the white ppl find some way to kick you out because of some random excuse and you got no real proof the against you but they keep doing it to latino kids and black kis but NEVER to white kids who do the same thing. THAT happens over and over and theres no way to prove its discrimination but it is.

I personally don't discriminate, at all.
thats really cool.

Okay, I'm not reading 20 pages of arguing, but I'm going to add my two cents.

Discrimination, whether it be White vs. Black, Brown vs. White, ect. is an issue. This kind of thing happens because people are put down or rejected and most of this kind of thing is learned at school.

I've had my Latin (I am too) friends and family make just about as many remarks to me about white people as I've heard white people say stuff about black people being ghetto.

In the north, it isn't as bad, because more people are mixed and gain I guess "brownie points" for other races and not having issues with them. But still discrimination is no matter how you sugar coat it is, affecting us all.

But, no one race, for the (% of people) has discriminated against another more than any other.

"Reverse Discrimination" I feel is just a fancy way of the majority feeling the minority's wrath. Though on a case-by-case experience, I don't think that "Reverse Discrimination" is justified, I know many people who drive big pick-ups and use spitting tobacco bitch about some (Latin or Black) guy walking down the street without reason, which I'm sure eventually puts in someone's mind that everybody of that race is against them or thinks a certain way about them.

I personally don't discriminate, at all.

You further proved my point...they both face discrimination but not the same kind. Compare how long blacks have gone through it and how long gays have gone through it.

so, gays have only been around for the last ten years?

Gays can change. you know what I mean.

... ? gays can change? oh good, hey scientists, you're wrong, mama16whatever has discovered what has puzzled you for years.

Now imagine this...being both. I bet you feel differently about me and my friends/family now. We got double problems that you wont even know the half of...literally

why would i feel differently about you? i feel the same as i did about you before, completely INDIFFERENT because the discrimination you suffer is NO WORSE than the discrimination 99% of people suffer

Science doesnt mean shit to me. Gays can change how they feel about the same sex. Just like they can become gay...

And did I say they were only around for 10 years? I dont care how long they were around. Blacks were discriminated against their whole lives. You dont have a point for the mere fact that gays and blacks dont face the same challenges.

And I didnt say it was worse all I was sayin is they cant be compared.

Reverse discrimination is rare, and frankly I don't believe it's a serious issue.

it's "rare" because it's not as well publicized.

whites are forced to walk on egg shells, many of us can't even approach the race topic irl without fear of being labeled racist, and lets face it, racism against whites is pretty much accepted.

So true.

And people are now even oversensitive to ANYTHING that could possibly be miscontrued as being rascist.

For example, my brother, mom, and I were at a grocery store.  I thought one of the cashiers was a girl in my class, but I only saw her for a split second.  My mom, however, was talking to her as she's the one who checked her out.  I asked my mom in the car, "Did that girl have curly hair?  Like, was she Asian?"  and before the words were even out of my mouth, my brother goes, "You're such a fucking racsist."

I'm not spelling racsist right.  Oh well, someone correct me...

the blacks of today are not directly effected by the events of 150 years ago

not directly no but indirectly sometimes yeah. and if we speaking about discrimination nonwhites are affected directly by events even 50 years ago. I mean does NOT have to be just slavery you know. Just the fact that blacks was shut off from jobs and schools meant that their parents was not allowed to do it so the kids have a harder time. You know that its easier to go to college if your parents have gone there already. And even if blacks are "allowed" now to go to college they still get crap look from ppl who think they dont belong or assume they got in "free" even if ARE qualified. So the discrimination is not from years ago. its as recent as homos too.

the homosexuals of today are directly effected by the events of 10 to 20 years ago.
i dont they wasn't suffering at all. you must be retarded to think I don't believe that because I been saying it over and over. but a homo can still go to college with no problem. And as I said he can HIDE his thing but a nonwhite dont have that luck. Except for blacks that look like white obv. I know its not fair he got to hide it but thats usually for some jobs or to go in military. its illegal to not let them in anyway right now.

If you want to make any valid comparison, which is what Seafercat is doing, then you'd compare the discrimination blacks have received in the last 10 to 20 years, which honestly, there has been.
well i talked about that too.
mama16advice Posted at 8:28 am on July 16, 2008
No, your not understanding.

How can you know what is feels like to be black unless you were so? How can you understand what it is to be a girl unless you were so? How can you understand what it is to be gay unless you were so?

You can only know but so much, and only know because of what you hear. Unless you live as a black person, a girl, or a homosexual, you wont ever really know what it really is to be that way. How can you, you wouldnt know first hand.

You further proved my point...they both face discrimination but not the same kind. Compare how long blacks have gone through it and how long gays have gone through it.

Point is this...Speaking from association...gays may receive discrimination to a certain degree (donating blood, adopting, church, etc.) but they can find ways to over come them. Blacks recieve discrimination to a certain degree also but sometimes there are no ways around it because they will ALWAYS be black and ALWAYS be stereotyped. Gays can change. you know what I mean.

Now imagine this...being both. I bet you feel differently about me and my friends/family now. We got double problems that you wont even know the half of...literally
