Or so my co-workers think.

I was at work yesterday, talking to another white girl and two black guys. The other girl was talking about another guy that we all work with, and she said "I don't think he likes me, probably because I'm white". To be honest, I have also noticed racism towards myself from this guy she was talking about. When she said that, the two black guys we were talking to, started LAUGHING. Laughing so hard. The one guy said "I've NEVER heard a white person say that before!" he found it hilarious. So, I said, "you have no idea what kind of racism I had to deal with growing up", which he found even funnier.

I grew up in a neighbourhood where my family and one other family were the white population. Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with it. I was raised to not see the colour of a person's skin. Unfortunately, a lot of people where I live, were not. I was ignored, beat up, treated like shit...all because I was "the white kid".

I understand that in some parts of the world, in some time periods, black people have had to go through a lot of racism. What I disagree with, is the belief that racism is solely white against black, and that there is no other kind of racism out there.

I don't know..what they said really offended me. They acted like it was a joke that people were racist to me. It really made me angry.

White people can be the target of racism, I find it sad that people don't think that's obvious. I don't know the whole story but I don't think those two black guys intended to be offensive. It's just really different to hear someone who's white pull a race card because it's quite uncommon. People generally look at Whites being the majority so it's almost unheard of to hear that sometimes they grow up not being the most well-treated. I don't think they meant to be offensive but if they are naive to the fact that there are areas where whites are the minority, just let them know.

Well at list now you know how it feels to be racist against by your experiences.

Thats horrible. =(

I just don't get racism in general. I mean we ALL have different colours of skin, different tones and such. So these racist people should hate everyone, not just for example blacks or whites just because the change in colour is more noticable.

It irritates me, its done in films as well. Wherever some white kid has to go into a black area they are always called "white girl/white boy" if they turned around and said "blackie" to someone or whatever. They'd get the shit kicked out of them and the film would be branded racist. Its rubbish.

People are assholes well some. Where i grew up my family and I are the black population and thankfuly for me I know everyone that i know here would sooner kick the ass of a racist than I would. Sorry that you work with ignorant people.

Well put .... but lets not paint everyone with the same brush .... There are good and bad in all races ... But its often thought of that its only white people who are racist ... when in fact in South Africa .... its very common amongst SOME black people ...

I get your point...White people apparently cannot be victims to racism, when actually they can...just because white pigment is more dominant, doesn't mean we can't be treated like crap too...

sure its not as common, but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

Some people think racism can only be towards black people, which is clearly naive and ignorant. You just have to learn to live with them, and I'm sure your coworkers meant no harm by what they said.
Dead Or Alive Posted at 6:47 am on Sep. 9, 2008
It makes me angry when black people do that too and I am black myself. I believe racism isn't just about black people either it targets all races. Don't let it get to you they aren't worth your time.

it is because people are very closed minded. I come from a high school where it was 65% hispanic and about 30% white (the other 5% was a mix of several different ethnicities) I totally understand feeling white discrimination.
