How important is your racial identity to you? Researchers long thought it wasn't that crucial to whites. But a groundbreaking new study on whiteness and race relations by University of Minnesota sociologists shows that whites in the U.S. are far more conscious of being white--and the privileges it brings--than was believed.

The survey is packed with fascinating findings, some surprising (a stunning proportion of whites--77%--say their race has a distinct culture that should be preserved) and some less so (whites view their role in the social hierarchy more benignly than blacks and Hispanics do). Whites are more likely to say prejudice and discrimination put blacks at a disadvantage than to say those factors contribute to white advantage. And they are much less likely than nonwhites to attribute inequality to bias in the legal system.

What to make of all this? Though whites in the U.S. believe there remain advantages to being white, they don't necessarily link those advantages with blacks' disadvantages. This hinders racial reconciliation, says co-author Douglas Hartmann: "Whites have invented subtle ways to convince themselves that race isn't a problem in America." Blacks do see more racism in society than whites but, contrary to stereotype, seem disinclined to blame the system for their disadvantage. In fact, they are more likely to attribute it to individual causes like a lack of hard work--77% did so, compared with 62% of whites. "We think of U.S. minorities as less engaged in American individualism," Hartmann says, "but they are maybe more so."

I use it as a source because you do...

Are you?
No, but mama16advice seems to think that you have to be that old to know - which is obviously a stupid argument.

The Holocaust is a mix of stories, "Eye-witness" accounts, Stooge claims, and misconceptions.

The Holocaust, in my opinion, happened - but not to the extent claimed.

Did 6 million die? I don't think so.
Were there mass gassings? No.

Yo have got to be kidding me.
Nope.

Talk to the survivors of the Holocaust.
I have. One of them, who wrote "Four perfect pebbles," came to our school.

But how sure can you be that they didn't lie?

There are PLENTY of people that survived and say it didn't happen - the only difference is that they are either dead or in jail.

It's ILLEGAL to say it didn't happen in pretty much every European country.

Ask them where their families went, why they never came back.
I would if I could be sure that they knew - and that they weren't lying.

They wanted them out of the nation. They had no right to be there.
 1. I'm not a neo-Nazi
 2. I'm not racist at all.

Sure...

Well, it all depends on what you define those terms as I guess.

They were deprived from citizenship SO THAT they could be pushed down.
They wanted them out of the nation. They had no right to be there.

At first but then they said Forced labor yeah!.
That was because of the war effort. Many countries use forced labor with POWs and criminals.

You even listen to yourself? Thats typical Nazi propaganda.

They were ALREADY citizens before. Defended Germany during WWI and before. Paid their taxes. Helped build the industry. Developed the sciences. Their only mistake is having a different faith.

Irrelevant.

The new government took away their citizenship.

The NSDAP was centered around the Germanic people.

Nobody made any "Mistake" - they were just not Germanic, therefore they weren't supposed to be there.

When Hitler ordered all Jewish Scientists to leave, he was told that he would lose 30% of German Nobel Prize Winners.
He KNEW that they were part of Germany - but they were not going to be part of Germania.

But yeah what am I doing really arguing to a Neo- Nazi who pretends he's not racist?

And Jews were not "pushed down" under the Nazi regime?
They weren't a part of the nation.
The Nazis wanted NOTHING to do with them - they wanted them to LEAVE.
They had NO RIGHT to be in Germany at all. They were told to leave and encouraged to.

Luckily, 2/3 of the German Jews DID leave Germany by the time war broke out.

Being stripped of your rights as citizen is not being pushed down?
They weren't oppressed if that's what you mean - as they weren't even part of the German society.

They were just there (and not supposed to be).

Being prohibited from practicing medicine or banned from professional jobs is not being "pushed down". Being sent to a concentration camp to word as forced labor is not being "pushed down"? Beingbanned from attending public school is not being "pushed down"?
They were told to leave.
They shouldn't have had any rights to do anything.

They were put in camps because war broke out and the Germans needed labor.

Being prevented from treatment by aryan doctors and not having jewish doctors to treat you (becuase they were prohiited from doing so) is not being "pushed down"?
They should have left.
The ones that stayed tend to say "I though Hitler would lose power so I just waited for that day."

Well, they were wrong - should've followed the other 2/3 of Jews that left.

It's one thing if you have a race being pushed down (lol, oppressed) at the same time as another advancing

In 1936, Jews were banned from all professional jobs, effectively preventing them from having any influence in education, politics, higher education, and industry

Between 1937 and 1938, new laws were implemented, and the segregation of Jews from the "German Aryan" population was completed. In particular, Jews were punished financially for being Jewish.

On March 1, 1938, government contracts could not be awarded to Jewish businesses. On September 30 of the same year, "Aryan" doctors could only treat "Aryan" patients. Provision of medical care to Jews was already hampered by the fact that Jews were banned from being doctors.

On August 17, Jews had to add "Israel"(males) or "Sarah" (females) to their names, and a large letter "J" was to be printed on their passports on October 5. On November 15, Jewish children were banned from going to public schools. By April 1939, nearly all Jewish companies had either collapsed under financial pressure and declining profits, or had been persuaded to sell out to the government, further reducing their rights as human beings; they were, in many ways, effectively separated from the German populace.
