In class today a teacher was talking about race and she said African Americans but then when she started about Americans she said whites. I think she should be able to say blacks. You?

My boyfriend is Jamaican, and whenever I've heard somebody refer to him as "African American" I've had to put them in their place and let them know he's not "African American", he's "Jamaican". It's perfectly ok to say "Black" or "Blacks", even though it may not sound too PC. I once referred to a customer I had as "the Chinese woman is order #4" and they all jumped down my throat! But it's like, why? If she's Chinese and a woman, she's a Chinese woman. It's not racist in the least. I don't even know how this whole "let's round them all up as African Americans, Asians, Latinos, etc" came about. If somebody is of a particular race, it's fine to address them as their particular race. Period.
