Is a Black person justified to respond with violence if they're called the "N-word"?

When you come down to it you can use any slur and use it to justify violence.

The N word is the worst in the bunch because of the history and backgrounf behind it. But I seem ppl get into fights for less than that and they felt justified.

You insult someone's sister or mother in some groups and you get more violence than a racial slur.

Cosmo Brown Posted at 10:03 am on May 12, 2012
I don't think violence is justified.  If someone calls you the N word, you should be like "lolok" and walk away.
Koopsey Posted at 7:44 am on May 12, 2012
I'm black and no violence is justified, but it wouldn't bother me if someone got beat up over it. Some people take it seriously
trendZ Posted at 2:55 am on May 5, 2012
when will whitey learn that words can have serious consequences?
i mean justified or not, would you really risk an ass whoopin just so you can say one word? if someone offends you to the point where you want to steal him, is the first thought "will this be justified?" no.. you want to knock his block off cuz he disrespected you.
the justified shit only works in court. there is no judge or jury in the streets so you may be sentenced to an ass whoopin without trial.

i could care less about who uses the word myself but why do white people get so asspained b on this issue. nobody is stopping you from saying that word. but I take no responsibility for any negative outcome you receive.

is this not common sense?

It's the standard belief that harsh words should never justify harsh actions obviously. Though you risk that when you take your words there. From reading the Op's previous posts it's obvious they have prejudice background against black people. However if you're mad because you got beat up for calling a black person a nigger, maybe you just shouldn't call people names? This goes for if they weren't black and you were just calling them a "Pussy Bitch". They might knock you out. I don't see how it matters. Sometimes people react to names by walking away and others physically retaliate. Though again, it's a given that people don't think harsh actions are justified.

8086, you're fucking kidding yourself if you think people aren't going to react to slurs such as "nigger." I don't know what race you are and I don't know if you're ever felt judge against merely by the way you look, but people are assholes out there.

Ever since I dyed my hair red, I've been called ginger in real nasty ways. I walk away from those.

Ever since I was young I've been called stupid, ignorant, pathetic, all that jazz. I walk away from those.

However, never have I once walked away from somebody who has called me a cunt. That word makes me lose my shit. I'm sure there are some words out there that will make you lose YOUR shit as well, and nigger happens to be one of those words that commonly people react horribly against.

In America, blacks didn't have civil rights until the 60s. Regardless if the slave trade was illegalized decades prior, they still have been discriminated against and they still are. Now, I'm not saying that you're completely wrong. Some black people are complete douchebags. I ride the metro downtown allllll the time, and I see black women (especially) get bent out of shape over them being "looked at weird." THOSE people are scumbags. Not all of them that react to slurs are, and I don't think we can see something like this as black and white.

all this can be condensed into "if i take offense to a word you use, youve given me permission to physically assault you"

no one is denying that black people have a reason to get violent and no one is denying that the people using words like that, especially if their purpose is to offend a black person, are utter cunts.  but no one has the right to react physically to a verbal insult.  and no one should feel that they are justified in doing so.  i get the reasons behind the actions, but it doesn't excuse anything.

Being ginger is not comparable to being black. Especially if you choose to dye your hair that way. :/

Maybe I just understand 8086 because I'm having it away with him but I think you're picking apart something that isn't there.

I lean towards what him and springs say. The latter having personal experience of it.

Idk I don't particularly take offense to any words that someone has used to try and cause me offence because it's a waste of time

That doesn't mean everyone is like me though. But violence is not justified.

They refer to us as milk or some shit. Would it be ok for us to be violent against something they intend as a racial slur??

lollerwhat Posted at 11:49 am on April 26, 2012
Just remember, it is never justified for a white kid to use violence in response to racial slurs being used against them.

Also, you know it is just time to lol and walk away the moment you see idiotic statements such as 'white privilege'.

no

if black people are still getting offended by that, they need to seriously grow up.  what, their 'brothers' can call them a nigger but as soon as a white person does they deserve to be beaten?  how fucking racist.

this.

how does a word justify being violent. its fucking stupid.

welcome to black america

You're biased.

Also, I love how you completely skipped over my last point saying that life isn't black and white so you suggest.

That's because, in terms of words being the root cause of violent behaviour, it really is black and white.

And how am I biased?

8086, you're fucking kidding yourself if you think people aren't going to react to slurs such as "nigger."

I've been saying exactly that people do react, but that i think they shouldn't.

I was a victim of violence a number of years ago and the person that did it was black, and he claimed I had been racist towards him, when I hadn't. He claimed I had used the word nigger. As a result, I was told to apologise [with no proof that I had done wrong] and he received no punishment. I had to go to hospital, and was about a half an inch from losing the sight in one eye.

But i digress, that is just one example of the sort of thing that wilfully accepting that a word brings about some reaction within people will cause as a result. Unless you see it as just a word, you're going to give violent scum an excuse to be violent. (nb. not to be read as "all blacks are violent scum") You also make people too sensitive about things and as a result you get situations like me being told to apologise for something that never happened, in the name of political correctness.

I don't know what race you are and I don't know if you're ever felt judge against merely by the way you look, but people are assholes out there.

Nobody's denying that. The world is full of assholes. But it's your own fault if you let them dictate your emotions and actions.

I'm sure there are some words out there that will make you lose YOUR shit

Nope. Perhaps if you get up in my face, and I can't get away from you, I'll do something, but even then it wouldn't be the words I was reacting to.

but words origins change over time, for example like the word faggot having different meanings or even the term gay

and fairly recently is kind of making it sound short though you know? I mean the slave trade was for a while and the roots of the word being used like that started there so I think it's been a while. The word also has I guess cousins or siblings in different languages like
kaffir and mayate along with others I don't remember at the moment

and yeah words only have the power you give them but you and I know that what might be easier for some to make powerless is harder for others
