Well this one little asshole kid (like 8 years old) is a total terror who steals breaks other peoples stuff ect and guess what his parents refuse to punish him at all because he might have Aspergers.  I am so sick of everyone who has a kid who acts up using it as an excuse to not have to do anything with them.

Also when the ell did it become trendy for every 14 year old in America who has a little social difficulties to claim they have aspergers and then wear the title like a badge of honor claiming to be super intelligent and use it as an excuse to be royal dill weeds while expecting everyone to pity them while kissing their asses?

same thing happened to me, and I improved when I got older because I tried at it. but it was really hard. There's no need to be diagnosed, makes no difference if its 'official' or some shit. terrible social skills can bring the same thing you said, and aren't a joke, because they've usually come about for familial reasons. by excuse i meant an excuse by the parents to avoid blame for fucking their kid up

imo aspergers is mostly a stupid excuse for poor social skills, probably for a variety of situational reasons that the stupid parents dont want to admit

I disagree entirely.
Sure, in it's lighter stages, it's nothing more than more poor judgement. 'Aspies' typically just learn to cope.
But I've seen it when it's very real. My mummy used to work at a college for hardcore aspies. They didn't understand people at all, often ending up being kicked out of school or bullied beyond belief.
Because of it's subtleness even some 'normal' aspies are subject to ridicule and not diagnosed, leading to self harm, or suicide, because other people say it's cool, and they're easily lead.

So no. It's not a joke, and it's not an excuse.

Aspergers...trendy?

Asperger's kids are nerdy-awkward little know-it-all bastards, nobody likes them.

Lol. No.

Trendy? Aspergers is a serious mental problem. It may take years to diagnose because it is subtle.
But how could living in a world where you don't understand anyone be trendy?

 Seriously, it's not.

it is serious in that people with asperger's trade their ability to socialize and read between the lines by being incredibly fixated on mundane details of life, but more often than not its misdiagnosed in people who just have shitty social skills.

Yes. I know. I have Asperger's.

I was referring to it being trendy, it's not.

it hasnt been shown that their brain is made differently, and even so, they can still develop anyway, it might just take them a little longer

same goes for autism, imo whatever the cause its just slower social development, but because of this slower development they get made fun of so it stunts their development when theyre already young, whereas they could catch up by like age 9 if it was done properly

If only it was that easy.

I agree most of the time thats the case, while there are people who really have problems with it because their brain is physically made differently.

As a rule of thumb most people who actually have serious mental problems don't brag about them.

what happened to adhd and bipolar

I view it as a different way of thinking not as a disability.
SovSull Posted at 4:03 pm on July 3, 2008
if you don't mind my asking what are your thoughts on autism pride and the concept of "neurodiversity" in general? there seems to be some conflict between treating asperger's as a disability v. as a different way of thinking.
