Gah, I keep fucking up and wasting my money.  Basically, I was trying to hook my PS3 up to my monitor since we don't have a playable TV in my dorm room.  Spent 30-50 bucks on cables and that didn't work.  Bought online so not worth returning, because half the cost was shipping anyway.

Then I bought a new monitor for one hundred and fifty, because it was a good deal for the size, and mine was pretty dated.  Turns out that it works, but not quite fully.  10% of the right side of the screen is cut off; playable, but I don't want to be spending this much for it to not work properly.

So my options are keep the monitor as is, or return it, losing thirty bucks on shipping and shelving...  Then possibly buy a slightly more expensive monitor that will DEFINITELY work fully.

I've just lost so much money doing this, I don't want to come out of it without it working...

I wish I had never started trying...  Fuck.

Well, I'm sorry. I hope you work it out eventually.

We had the same problem when we first tried connecting the PC to the TV. We changed the res and flicker rate and it worked fine.

That's why with technology, I always like to spend a little more money to ensure the quality of the product.

Plus I read consumer reports magazine and read up on the information before I spend money like that.

Just take some hints.. you will learn with time.
Good luck man.

The problem was a lack of information.  All sources I had found showed that the setup I was using would definitely work, until it didn't, or had some problem.  Because once it didn't work, you're able to nail down that this specific resolution doesn't work, etc.  So I'm really pretty pissed off.  It was hit or miss, I just didn't want to miss this much.
