It makes me sick when I read about people 'becoming anorexic' to loose weight.

It simply doesn't work like that and it is making light of a quite serious potentially fatal mental illness.

Anorexia Nervosa, for those who don't know is a mental illness (eating disorder) which is the arguably unconscious result of an individual trying to exercise some control over their lives.

It is most common in people who have a strict home life or in people who feel like they have little to no control over their lives.

Anorexia Nervosa IS NOT a way to loose weight. It has the opposite effect and people who simply stop eating (which is not 'being anorexic') actually put on more weight.

Please PLEASE stop being so ignorant. I really hate when people make light of such a serious mental health issue. Same goes for depression.

Discuss.

people cant help it though, wen u look in the mirror u see and fat person staring u in the face and u do anything to get rid of it

The worry is that if people seriously think that not eating is a way to become healthy then they could damage themselves.

... and I am overweight, when I look in the mirror I just see myself. I am not worried about being overweight and never have been. The thing is people who read magazines are told that there is something wrong with them if they don't look like the models, this is wrong.

So what your saying is not true for other people, just yourself..

People can't handle the seriousness of reality, so instead they make light and jokes of it to make living in this cruel world more bearable.

Light jokes made by a certain class of people lead to stereotypes.

Stereotypes lead to discrimination.

Discrimination leads to a breakdown in society.

We need to curve the culture now..

I actually cannot eat more then a meal a day. I just can't. At first I did it to lose weight, now I just can't stop. I'm glad I'm no longer the kid I was in 8th grade, but I agree. Even though it's hypocritical, believe me when I say it fucked up so many things about me.

Are you honestly trying to argue that when you don't eat (not getting calories) for a long period of time you're not going to lose weight, but instead you gain? That's not true. They will most likely gain weight once they start eating normally again, but they don't put on weight from being anorexic.

But I do agree.
