It doesn't really mean you have one, rather it's one of the behaviors of people with EDNOS.

Yes it's called chewing and spitting. Chewing and spitting is a highly addictive habit, and its also habit forming. On the surface, chewing and spitting may not seem like a very harmful thing to do, but it is linked to food deprivation as the type of food being spat out is rarely actually eaten. Although cravings for it can be strong, the food spat out is considered 'bad'. Chewing and spitting can also invoke a sense of waste and guilt about the food that is quite literally being wasted.

Chewing and spitting out sugary foods can still do damage to teeth, perhaps even more so, as the quantities of sugar ending up in the mouth are larger than if food was actually swallowed and eaten properly.

There's nothing good about depriving your body of the food it needs. Food that ends up in the mouth should be swallowed. Rather than chewing and spitting out certain types of foods, it's better to actually eat them in moderation.

Yes. Yes. Yes.

I'm struggling with that now. People say that you get some of the calories from your saliva but that's absolutely not true. The nutritrionist I'm working with told me that. Plus my dad is a doctor, and he said that yes, breakdown of calories DOES start in your mouth, but unless you swallow it's impossible to actually absorb them, you just end up spitting out the broken down food.

I started doing this because I thought it would be a great way to control my weight. The problem was that I was exercising a lot, and so I lost it really fast, and it got rather out of hand. I'm getting help for it now, but it's still really hard to get myself to eat normally.

Feel free to PM me anytime if you need someone to talk to!
