Ok, here's my situation. I struggle to maintain my weight. I'm pretty thin, have never been fat or anything. Whenever I think about food, I just feel sick. My stomach goes from starving to stuffed in one bite, my throat tightens to the point where my breathing becomes faint, I get nervous, and sometimes I feel like I am going to throw up, although it's been 6+ months since the last time I've thrown up for any reason.

Today, while I was eating dinner, I quickly ate it while talking to my mom in attempt to distract my mind, but all she wants to talk about is food. By the time I was finished, I felt like I was going to throw up. Now, all I had was a bowl of soup and a glass of milk. Not some giant ass meal, just something small, yet healthy and filling. I became very nervous and started shaking(I used to get panic attacks, sometimes I get mild forms of them where I start shaking and stuff, but nothing like what I used to experience). My throat tighten and dryed up. It is still hard to breathe hours later. This is NOT an allergic reaction as it happens everytime I eat, no matter what I eat.

Eating around others is more difficult for me. For some reason, I get uneasy around everyone when I'm eating, but I'm perfectly calm if food isn't in the picture. I also eat more when I'm alone listening to music or watching a movie/tv.

I tend to have many small meals/snacks throughout the day because I simply cannot eat a large amount at one time.

Would anyone consider that an eating disorder? I can try to go more in-depth if needed, but I feel as though I have covered it pretty clearly.

If you consider it an eating disorder, I would appreciate any ideas/tips to help me improve my situation. Not cure, just improve. I don't expect to ever be completely ridden of this situation. No medicines though, medicine makes me fucking nervous as well.

I know that I have anxiety issues and mine is triggered by coffee and drinking it around people. I love coffee but because my dad used to throw hot coffee on me when I was younger, I am currently unable to consume coffee when other people are around. It sounds like you may have an issue like this, maybe some bad experience caused you to feel this way, maybe even so long ago you dont remember it. Maybe you could try hypnosis by a professional or self hypnosis to try and find out what is subconsciously or maybe even physically causing this.

I agree that it seems more like anxiety. Especially since you don't think you're fat. I know of a few people that get really anxious about eating because they're really freaked out about choking, but I'm pretty sure that's not it. Though if you think there may be something wrong, talk to someone you're close to, someone you know you can trust.

I know this isn't the place for professional advice, but it's advice nonetheless. I have had anxiety issues most of my life. I've been to the hospital before because I literally thought I was dying as stupid as that may sound.

To the poster who asked if I thought I was fat, no, I do not think I'm fat. I'm pretty lean. 130 pounds at 5'9".

I think you have an anxiety with eating food...?
BackPorch Posted at 9:27 pm on Jan. 8, 2009
It sounds like more of an anxiety issue than an eating disorder..

Do you think you are fat?

okumsup Posted at 9:26 pm on Jan. 8, 2009
