hi sarah Posted at 12:00 am on June 12, 2008
my friends decided to go on this new diet
where she eats gum all day and then dinner
shes pretty big but that diet is going to hurt her
how do i tell her not to do it when i did it for so many years
and even worse diets than that
i hate sounding like a hypocrite
and if i tell her not to shes gong to say yeah well you did worse so you cant say shit
which is true

any ideas on how to secretly convince her not to do it?

Tell her the truth and say I know I did it but i regret it or something

Are you doing the new diet now, or did you stop?  If you stopped, then you can tell her you figure out how bad it was for you, and so you stopped.

If she really does need to lose weight, real info about metabolism and the proper way to lose weight might convince her.  When you eat very little, your body will learn to use less energy--your metabolism will slow--everything will slow way down.  And so you won't lose much weight.  Then when you stop the diet, your body won't stop being slow and the extra calories will pile on as weight in no time.

Instead, she should eat 6 or 7 small, healthy meals every day, with a total of 1500+ calories, and do 30+ minutes of aerobic exercise (running, biking, swimming) every other day and increase the number of minutes as she becomes more fit.

If she doesn't need to lose weight, then you should talk to her about eating disorders and not just her diet.

Inform her of a thing called 'running'.  It works wonders.

If shes not going to listen let her do it...then when she see it doesnt work she feel real stupid

so i should let her do it and get really sick and possibly even addicted to it?
i think im not going to do that

tell her wit ur expererience, u know that its not a good thing to do. tell her shes her own person and ur not trying to boss her around, but u just want to warn her before she gets too far. because it is hard to stop once u get so far into it. and thats true, i know from experience.

tell her the truth
shadowpool Posted at 12:03 am on June 12, 2008
How about

"As soon as you get off that diet you're going to immediately gain everything back plus ten pounds."

Which is true.

Lol,eating gum as a substitute for food?!
Erm, try telling her parents about it. And, if you two are at the same school, then alert the school nurse.
